2 Chainz was robbed at gunpoint in San Francisco on Sunday night, just hours before he was scheduled to perform in concert, police have confirmed with the Associated Press and other outlets.
Earlier Monday, TMZ reported the rapper was held up, but later the police mistakenly told various outlets that the rapper had not been robbed. Now, authorities are confirming it was indeed 2 Chainz, whose real name is Tauheed Epps.
Sgt. Dennis Toomer said 2 Chainz and five members of his entourage were walking in downtown San Francisco on Sunday afternoon when three men, including one holding a handgun, approached.
Police say one shot was fired and that the rapper’s cellphone and wallet were stolen. The suspected shooter reportedly fled in a gray sedan.
The rapper was in the Bay Area to perform at a local radio station’s Summer Jam concert at the Oracle Arena in Oakland. On Twitter, 2 Chainz appears to be denying that he was mixed up in any kind of robbery, giving mixed messages to fans on what happened:
