DJ Jay Erica My Take On The Aaliyah Movie! “Aaliyah: The Princess of R&B” [ READ HERE]

Okay Its DJ Jay Erica, Yes I am late with my opinion on the Aaliyah movie which premiered 3 nights ago on Lifetime; But here’s my take on this poorly produced biopic on the Iconic Late R&B Superstar. November 15 8pm ET the world was exposed to a biopic about the Iconic late R&B Singer Aaliyah on Lifetime “Aaliyah: The Princess of R&B”. Over the past year, months, weeks,& days there has been extreme controversy over the making of this biopic which was co produced by talk show host Wendy Williams . This film that was not approved nor supported by Aaliyah’s Family, Friends, & Fans caused quite a negative buzz on social media with memes on IG trending on every social site about the film created as seen in slideshow.

During this messy production the original teenage actress/singer “Zendaya” slated to play the role of Aaliyah in the film quit abruptly while in mid production. However, this did not stop Lifetime & Wendy Williams Productions from creating this film. The production was obviously set for failure due to a low budget & the fact Lifetime did not receive the music rights to play any of Aaliyah’s music throughout the biopic.  This film was a lackluster portrayal  of what unknown  outsiders thought happened throughout Aaliyah short life.  I personally was not impressed with the quality of the film .  The casting was completely disgraceful it looks to me Lifetime did not create this film with a pure heart however to make profit off an Iconic singer that had a large fan base that would boost ratings & break records for Lifetime & Wendy Williams financial gains.  Speaking as an actual fan of Aaliyah I believe this film was an insult to the legacy & true talent of Aaliyah. They did not focus on her talent but more so Aaliyah rumored scandalized marriage to R. Kelly at 15 years old. The only good thing that came from this movie was the amount of fans that tuned & went to social media to openly express their distaste for the film. Including the reaction from music producer Timbaland; Aaliyah life long friend & producer using memes & short videos on IG to express his distaste for the film.  I could continue on about the film however I’ll leave you guys with an update according to sources Aaliyah family is in the middle of creating a true feature film about Aaliyah’s life & tragic death due for release late 2015 approved by her family produced by Aaliyah uncle Barry Hankerson.  This is great news we look forward to see this movie recreated the right way. Rest In Peace Aaliyah!
